Are These Prices Justified?

Undoubtedly, Motril's Playa Granada is growing but so are rental prices, but are rentals doubling in five years justified?

According to Tenitasa de 2020, five years ago the cost of a short-term rental for a 90-sq/m flat on Playa Granada cost you 700 euros a week, yet now it is 1,500 euros. In fact, a 1-night stay will set you back 300 euros, according to Airbnb or Booking.

Now, we’re not talking about luxury villas, or even modest ones, but flats with an average floor area of less than 100 sq/m, with a shared pool at best. Also bear in mind, that these are peak-season rentals

If you’ve got the money, then fine but renting a small apartment for a week on Playa Granada will set you back a month’s salary for the average worker; i.e., official, average-salary marker. It is affordable for a group of friends going for a 4-bedroom flat which goes for 2,000 euros a week.

Of course, enquiring after a flat at the beginning of May is probably a waste of time as everything is already booked out, and that which is not…

Things have changed from when Almuñécar was the most expensive seaside town to find a holiday rental, because Motril, thanks to Playa Granada, has overtaken it. Prices in Calahonda have almost reached the level of Motril, although Torrenueva Costa remains the cheapest location at this end of Costa Tropical.

Playa Granada now has decent mobile phone coverage, which was something that it lacked and amenities in general are increasing so that residents don’t have to go to the town centre so much.

Furthermore, when Motril Marina has been completely enlarged, who knows whether Motril will overtake many of the Costa del Sol seaside towns?
