A 7-year-old boy was knocked over and left disabled in the summer of 2023 in a town in Aragón. The compensation awarded was surprisingly high.

This accident will cost the the insurance company 3.7m euros, which is the largest compensation sum ever awarded in Spain.

The boy had tried to cross the road, emerging from between two parked cars. The driver had been driving correctly but could not stop in time. Consequently, the child suffered serious injuries, which left him unable to lead a normal life when he was eventually discharged from hospital.

The thing is that this sum was agreed upon without having to go to court, amongst several insurance companies, on the one hand, and the family’s lawer on the other, who is specialised in accident claims.

The compensation was calculated on many factors including, adapting the boy’s home to his specialised needs, home-help nursing, the loss of the child’s future income from work, etc.

Lastly, the insurance company respects the family’s wish to remain anonymous, which is also reflected in the name of the town where it happened not being revealed.
