Paseo Changes on the Horizon

The Mayor of Almuñécar and his predecessor, Trinidad Herrera, have long cherished the plan to return the Paseo Prieto Moreno back to 2-way traffic.

The said paseo is the one that links the Paseo del Altillo to the Peñon de Santo and San Cristóbal beyond and is named after Prieto Moreno, one of Franco’s best known architects (1907-1985).

However, it was under Mayor Juan Carlos Benavides that Almuñécar doubled in size leaving it much as it is today. You can read more about Prieto Moreno here.

Anyway, Mayor Juanjo Ruiz Joya has a project with a budget of 72,600 euros, which will entirely come out of the municipal coffers. It was one of his electoral pledges.

When work eventually commences, it should take ten months, so that’s Semana Santa stuffed and quite possibly part of a summer as well.

Editorial comment: If memory serves me well, the plan is to make room for another lane by building out over the beach a little, probably on stilts.
