Wind Warning on Autovia

The Spanish Meteorlogical Agency (Aemet) has warned drivers using the A-44, especially where it passes through Lecrín Valley, to drive with extra care owing to high winds.

Protección Civil is urging drivers to beware after Aemet issued a yellow warning for the provinces of Almería and Granada. In the case of the former, it affects Western Almería (Poniente) the capital, Eastern Almería (Levante) the Valle del Almanzora and Los Vélez.

The meteorologists forecast gusting winds of 70 kph between 12.00h and 18.00h. It’s probably a good idea to be on your toes if you’re going to drive over the Embalse de Rules bridge. If you’re on two wheels, best not to use it at all, but use instead the old road GR-323a) which passes alongside the reservoir.

It is also windy down on the Costa Tropical, where gusts of 50 and 60 kph and 3-metre waves are expected.
