The First Councillor of Gumiel (Moclín), José Sánchez Aguilera, has been removed from office early last month for his involvement in the posting of a video of a fox being torn apart by dogs.
Móclin Town Hall took this decision to suspend him from his post after finding out about the incident following an animal-protection association, PACMA, bringing it to the attention of the Guardia Civil.
“A group of hunters have tortured a fox in a municipality in Granada and the First Councillor of the municipal dependency of Gumiel (PSOE) forwarded the video on his official whatsapp account,” explained PACMA on their Instagram account.
“Here at PACMA we have brought this to the notice of the Guardia Civil so that it can be investigated,” they further explained, demanding that Moclín Town Hall removes the First Councillor Sánchez Aguilera from his post immediately.
After analysing the video the Mayor did precisely that announcing, “The Town Hall expresses its firm opposition to any harm or abuse against animals.”
In the video you can see a group of hunters out at night, mistreating the stricken animal: one of the hunters, laughing, beats the fox whilst the dogs are laying into it.
The First Councillor claims that he forwarded the video “unintentionally,” stating that the video comes from a whatsapp group that he had previously left. However, he accepts that he must take responsibility for his actions.
Editorial: hunters from small villages have a viceral hate of foxes and if you mention that you have seen one ,they will say that you have to kill it. I had a fox that would visit my cortijo and I would feed it by hand as it was very trusting. It didn’t last long before a hunter got it. I also lost a dog to a hunter, who appears to have used it as target practice.
