Almuñécar's Policía Local nabbed two individuals on the Paseo de Velilla with five kilos of anemones (Anemonia viridis) and 1 kg of octupus.
Apart from this illegal catch, they also had marihuana on them (which is not a firing-squad offence) but they both have criminal records for possession of illegal drugs (probably wheelbarrow amounts pot) and gender violence.

Neither had a fishing permit which are issued by the Dirección General de Pesca y Acuicultura de la Junta de Andalucía, if you’re interested in obtaining one.
Anyway, the catch was returned to the sea and the Mr Naughties fined.
There was a case of somebody illegally capturing anemones in October last year which we reported on.
Poachers come down this end of the coast because this creature is almost extinct from overfishing in the waters off Cádiz and Málaga.
In southwestern Spain and Sardinia, the snakelocks anemone is consumed as a delicacy. The whole animal is marinated in vinegar, then coated in a batter similar to that used to make calamares a Romana, and deep-fried in olive oil.
