Late Saturday evening on the 15th of last month two residents of Almuñécar fought over a well, resulting in them both ending up seriously injured.
At first, news of what had happened was confusing but it later became apparent that both indiviuals had to be taken to the Hospital de Traumatología in the city of Granada.
One of whom was badly injured and the other was so seriously injured that he had to be flown to the hospital, barely hanging onto life.
Both men were aged 57 and were relatives (brother-in-laws) and had been arguing over the use of a well in the area of the Barranco Matachina.
Things became very violent when one hit the other over the head with a mattock, leaving him unconscious.
The Barranco Matachina is along the Camino de Río Seco after accessing from the Rambla de Torrecuevas but the quickest way is along the Camino Vereda de Cordobilla.
We won’t explain the whole route but you will get the idea if you know the area at all.
It is still not clear what injuries the second man had nor what was used, but the result was that both were first taken to Hospital Santa Ana in Motril before being transferred to Granada.
Editorial comment: one of the men died two days later, on the 17th, from his head injuries.
