The Policía Nacional in Granada have arrested a man, suspected of having mugged a nun, amongst other victims.
The 20-year-old man, who has no previous arrests, allegedly waylaid three different women during the course of the same morning.
One of the reported victims was a nun in her 70s, from whom he violently relieved 460 euros, her mobile phone and a lottery ticket.
The first mugging took place a little before eight in the morning in the north of the city, which is a hairy place at the best of times. The victim, who was on her way to work, noticed the man cross over from the opposite pavement to approach her.
Moment later she was attacked from behind and struck several times in the face. The thief tried to snatch her handbag, keeping up the blows, but she managed to break free from her aggressor, at which point, he ran off.
Half an hour later, approximately, the mugger struck again on a nearby street, choosing an unaccompanied woman on her way to work again. However, the victim noticed him catching up with her and decided to turn round and face him. He pushed her violently against a wall, snatching at her bag, which he managed to get off her after the strap broke. The attacker made off with just 24 euros, her ID, bankcards and a city transport pass.
Then, around 09.15h, reportedly the same mugger came across the elderly nun on her way to a church in the north of the city.
The attacker grabbed at her handbag which she had over her shoulder, the force of which made her fall to the ground. The thief dragged her by the bag until she finally let go it and he ran off.
Thanks to descriptions given by the victims, officers soon tracked the alleged culprit down and arrested him. He was found with 571 euros on him, together with two mobile phones and bankcards, all belonging to the victims.
The arrested man, originally from Morocco but with Spanish nationality, has been remanded in custody.

Reader’s comment: “The great pleasure of once being a colonial power, is that it comes back to haunt you. Many original EU countries have had many many immigrants from post colonial countries. Most have settled well into the new mother countries. But there are always some that do not. Unable to find work or want to. Dealers in drugs and prostitution. Theft. Small in number. But big on effect. When viewed as a incoming population.
UK thought it had the answer. Revoke the granted Citizenship. Deport to country of birth or of family country. Legal Advisers on taxpayers money advised . Renounce your citizenship of (Pakistan in most cases). So although should be deported to home country. Now stateless. So no deportation. Difficult to get around legally.
Some Arabic countries deal with these sorts of people in a more basic way. Right hand, left foot gone. Bit difficult to mug others.” – Patrick Barry Storey
