Final Covid Count

During that time period there were 7,000,000 direct or Covid-related deaths in 234 different countries.

Hang on a minute, you think, aren’t there only 195 countries? Yes, according to the UN there are 193 member states plus two: the Vatican City and the State of Palestine as observer nations. Then you can start adding Taiwan, Kosovo and Hong Kong, which are not recognised by some other countries. In fact, you have to turn to the list that the CIA has to reach 237.

Right, having established that, we plunge on… the last four weeks before the publication of this W.H.O., report (14th Oct – 10th Nov) 77 countries handed over data to them with a total of 27 deaths around the world, which was 39% lower than the previous 4-week period.

But of course, who is bothering to check if they have Covid-19 and much less report it. There are probably more registered deaths from plain and simple flu and certainly many more road-accident deaths than the figures for the stated period… knowing how the Italians drive.

Long past was when the Covid patients in ICU wards reached 245 per 1,000 people hospitalised, which was in July 2021. By the beginning of 2022, it had dropped to 132 and only 69 per 1,000 by the end of 2023.

At the beginning of last year it rose to 191/1,000 before dropping to 108/1,000 in November when the report was published.

As for deaths, the number has dropped constantly since June 2021 so that the beginning of 2024 the number of deaths had dropped to 41/1,000, as herd immunity grows

As for vaccine roll outs, by the end of 2023, 67% of the world’s population had completed the jab series and 32% had received a booster since then, which is hardly surprising seeing as in Europe they are innoculating the elderly with combined Covid and Flu jabs.

Put another way, by the end of the third quarter to 2023, 39.2 million people in 90 countries had received a booster jab – that 31% of the world population.
