A man, trapped in his upturned car, burnt to death within the municipality of Zafarraya. The victim was a public-health doctor who practiced in that town.
With 36-year-old, Doctor Rubén in the car was a nurse, who was injured in the accident and who was evacuated by helicopter to the nearest hospital.
According to the emergency coordination centre, 112, they received the first alert at 14.15h on Saturday. The accident happened near kilometre point 37 on the A-402. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the car rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof.
People living nearby, Abdellhan Sabri and Josué Millet, ran to help the occupants of the car. They managed to cut through the nurse’s seatbelt in order to free her from the wreckage. However, when they returned for the driver, Rubén, the car exploded in flames, making it impossible to approach it, much less get the driver out.
In the meantime, 112 had despatched the Guardia Civil, the fire service from Alhama and an ambulance from Alhama, as well.
The woman, as explained above, was flown to Traumatología in the city of Granada where she was operated upon yesterday and her condition is described as “serious but stable.”
