Just six kilometres from the Cuevas de Nerja you can find the Pinarillo picnic area, in the heart of the Sierra Almijara natural park.
This recreational area was set up around 30 years ago with BBQ areas, benches, tables, bathrooms and children’s play areas.

However, it was closed for more than a year during the drought because of the high risk of fires but now, following the rains, vehicle access has been restored. The entrance is gained through a metal gate right next to Nerja Caves.
The Nerja Councillor for the Environment, Javier Rodríguez (PP), announced this, saying as of Friday the 22nd (just passed) visitors could now reach the recreational area by car.
“With the improvement in conditions and the rains of recent weeks, which have considerably reduced the risk of fires, we have decided to lift the ban on access to road traffic,” said Councillor Rodríguez. He also pointed out that work had been carried out to clean up and remove fallen trees, as well as checking over the facilities in general.
Lastly, he announced that Civil Protection volunteers would be on duty there over weekend periods to ensure citizen safety.
