Quantifying The Damage

The Central Government representative for the province of Granada has visited municipalities affected by the Cold Drop (torrential downpours a.k.a DANA) in north-east Granada.

Following the visit, the process for allocating financial aid to the affected areas of the province will begin.

Sub-Delegate José Antonio Montilla Martos calculates that there are 20 towns and villages in need of economic assistance, most of which are in the Baza area of north-east Granada; i.e., Baza, Guadix and Los Montes.

More specifically, we are talking of Guadix, Benalúa, Purullena, Diezma, La Calahorra, Dólar, Baza, Cúllar, Benamaurel, Caniles, Orce, Castril, Guadahortuna, Villanueva de las Torres, Fonelas, Huéneja and Valle del Zalabí.

However, there are also municipalities within the Valle de Lecrin who have been affected to a lesser degree: Padul, Dúrcal and Villamena. Fortunately, there have been no deaths in the province, just material damage.

However, Sub-Delegate Montilla Martos says that it is still early to quantify the economic damage caused although they know that it will be sizeable.

Two roads in the Guadix-Baza area remain closed to traffic; the GR-4104 between Bejarín and Benalúa, where a bridge collapsed, and the A-4200 between Benamaurel and Baza, where a section of road was swept away.
