Residential Area on a Green Belt

The Partido Socialista (PSOE) in Almuñécar have denounced a plan to build a residential complex on top of a green zone on the Cerro Gordo.

The plot of land is privately owned green belt and the opposition party accuses the Mayor of using a “questionable interpretation” of the new Ley de Ordenación Urbana Andaluza, in order to build a residential estate in an area when the buildability quota is already exhausted.

Neither was the PSOE alone in criticising the ruling party because it was joined by all the other opposition parties, too. Furthermore, there was generalised criticism of the move that would give the Town Hall a percentage of the plot, which would be of no use whatsoever as public property as it is so far away from the La Herradura urban area.

The opposition parties also believe that this will set a dangerous precedent as there are other privately own green-belt areas in the municipality, such as the Punta de La Mona, Cerro Gordo and Los Pinos. According to the PSOE said that during the Plenary Meeting the Councillor for Urban Development admitted that they are looking and six or seven other projects of the same kind in both Almuñecar and La Herradura.
