A fire in a motorbike-repair workshop in the centre of Nerja yesterday morning caused quite a stir.
Around 30 people from 12 flats had to be evacuated whilst the fire was dealt with. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, however.

The fire was reported in Motos Cereto around 09.30h, which is situated where Calle Río Chíllar meets Calle San Miguel. Four fire trucks belonging to the Nerja and Vélez-Málaga fire stations were despatched.
On the ground floor is the motorbike showroom and in the basement is the workshop; it was below where the fire occurred.
Amongst those temporarily evacuated was the staff of the Servicios Sociales office next door, as well as the residents from the flats above the repair shop.
The Policía Local and the Nerja Protección Civil handled directing the traffic and escorting the evacuees to safety. By 12.00h, fire personnel returned to their fire stations and evacuees were allowed to return home or to the Social Security premises.
At the time of writing (19.50h Tuesday) the number of bikes affected by the fire was not known.
As it happens, this same establishment suffered a major fire in March 2009, which burnt out around a hundred bikes, scooters and mopeds.
