Seguridad Social has had to come out and report a scam letter, supposed from them, asking for money.
The Policía Nacional, the Guardia Civil and the Ministerio de Seguridad Social all confirm that it is a scam with intention of obtaining personal details from their victims: In other words, it’s a phishing scam.
It concludes by requesting that the person who receives the email should supply their personal fiscal details and bank details… as well as a photocopy of the victim’s DNI (ID Card).
The English translation is: At Social Security, we’re contacting you because you are required to supply the following documents owing to a new law that came into force last month, as well as a problem with Social Security’s IT system which caused the lost of data. There will also be an increase in retirement benefits of between 75 and 150 euros.
The said ministry advises that if you receive such a letter via email, it is completely false. However, there are a couple of give-aways that are immediately apparently, amongst them the sender is using an Outlook-mail account, whereas anything from Seguridad Social uses @seg-social.es. It is also signed as coming from the Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social, which are two entirely different institutions and not one.
