Potholers in Huéscar (north-east of the province) came across a skull and a collection of bones belonging to more than one person whilst exploring a cave.
The discovery actually happened in December last year in an area of that municipality known as El Chaparral. It was a shepherd who discovered the cave, which has very difficult access, and who informed a speleology club, Asociación Espeleológica Velezana.

According to bone analysis, the skeletons are certainly not prehistoric and it is supposed (until definite confirmation of an accurate dating is made) that they belong to a victim of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Therefore, the find will be investigated by the Guardia Civil.
The local law court put a gagging order on the investigation when it was found that the bones belonged to two individuals.
