ITV Test Centres on Strike

Workers manning the vehicle inspection centres (ITVs) will start their first day of a region-wide strike today, lasting until the 30th of this month.

The exact dates are the 19th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, 26th, 27th, 28th and 30th. In Granada this will affect the ITVs in Motril, Órgiva, Huéscar, Baza, Guadix, Peligros, Las Gabias and the city of Granada, as well as the two mobile ones that deal with 49CCs.

The national workers unions, the UGT and the CC OO intend to shut down 70 ITV stations across Andalucia during eight working days.

However, they have to observe minimum services agreed upon by the workers committee and the administration/public company that runs them.

On each shift there will be an inspector out testing the vehicles and a clerk carrying out administrative centres. This is a 10% minimum service, which the unions consider reasonable, whereas the company wants 40% coverage, which the unions considered “barbaric.”

After lengthy negotiations, an accord was reached: emergency vehicles will have priority (fire & ambulance), followed by those that failed their first inspection and were told to return having rectified the deficiencies.

As for the workers who will turn up, it will be based on volunteers, and if they aren’t any, from workers newly hired up to veteran workers, in that order.

The company is warning car owners with appointments about the strike, but if you have an appointment for any one of those days, check before you set out.
