Violence on The Coast

The case of a car theft using violence, a business premises burglary in Salobreña and then a crashed car abandoned in an urbanización in Almuñécar is what the Guardia Civil had to deal with in August.

The police have arrested a 32-year-old man, suspected of being behind all this and have identified his alleged 36-year-old accomplice although he is still at large.

The violent theft of a car, forcing the driver to hand it over, took place on the 3rd of August. That same night the thieves broke into a business premises in Salobreña and stole the cash register. However, one of the thieves badly cut himself on the glass from the smashed door.

Not long after, the Guardia Civil had news that the stolen car had been involved in an accident in Almuñécar. The thieves abandoned the car leaving the cash register inside and quite a lot of blood from the injured thief.

Unbelieveably, the police also found the wallet belonging to one of them – perhaps they abandoned the car in a hurry given how much blood one of them was losing.

Seeing the amount of blood lost in the business premises in Salobreña and an equal amount in the car, the police immediately started enquiring at Hospital Santa Ana in Motril. It was there that they came across the suspect in the A&E Department. Not only his injury gave him away, but also his ID card that the police were holding.

The police waited until the nurse had sewn up a gash in his thigh before marching him off to the police cells.

Editorial comment: a day or two ago we reported on another car theft in Salobreña followed by an arrest in Molvízar.
