A man in his mid 90s was killed trying to cross the autovia where it passes next to Otura in front of Boabdil service station.

The accident happened on the GR-30 on the southbound lanes around 12.10h, which was the time that 112 received an alert from eyewitnesses.

By the time that an ambulance had arrived, despite it arriving quickly, there was nothing that could be done for the elderly road-accident victim.

Editorial note: the A-44 divides just south of Otura with the original section (which joins up with the inner bypass and the junction for Sierra Nevada) taking on the name of GR-30. The completely new section of autovía which bypasses the city of Granada altogether and takes traffic for Jáen, now bears the A-44 name.
