During the last Plenary Meeting of Nerja Town Council a motion was approved to recognise the actions of officers from the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil in the line of duty.
Two officers from the municipal police and two from the Guardia Civil managed to rescue an elderly man from a flat with a gas leak.
Councillor for Citizen Safety, Francisco Arce (PP) explained that on the 19th of June the said officers attended a call out to Edifico Corona on Calle Antonio Millón, where a gas leak was reported.
The officers first evacuated the first floor of the block of flats before locating where the smell of gas was coming from; the flat of a man of advanced age, who was groggy from the affects of inhaling gas.
They got him down to the street level where an ambulance was waiting and then despite the risk of an explosion at any moment, they reentered and shut off the source of the gas leak.
For their actions, putting their own lives at risk, the Town Council has recommended that the Junta de Andalucia awards the four officers the Orden al Mérito de la Policía Local de Andalucía.
