In Almuñécar and La Herradura you not only stand a chance of getting your car towed away if you leave it where you shouldn't, but the same can happen to your boat.
Almuñécar Town Hall has been taking steps to counter the problem of people leaving their small leisure craft beached on its many playas; what they want is there only to be organised areas rather than just beaching them anywhere.
Councillor for Beaches, Lucía González, explained that they have removed twelve boats along Playa Velilla and acted similarly over in La Herradura.
“Those boats that are not moved by their owners, will be considered abandoned and removed by the Town Hall,” she said. Confiscated craft will be taken to the Municipal Vehicle Compound.
Councillor González also said that the beaching area next to Dani’s in La Herradura will be reorganised and moved some 50 metres.
This move was agreed upon by the whole Town Council in March, leaving notification on 41 boats and one surfboard that they considered as ‘abandoned,’ which were either unregistered, unmarked, unserviceable or outside designated areas.
Leaving a boat abandoned on a beach can get fines of between 2,001 and 100,000 euros, as some are detrimental to the environment.
