Man Loses Life in a Fairground

A middle-aged man died during the local fiestas in Matamá (Vigo/Galicia) when the arm from a octopus (saltamontes) came free.

It was two in the morning of today when the mechanical arm came from its mounting leaving the victim first, badly injured, and only to die moments later from his injuries.

Eyewitnesses explained that the rotating attraction began going in reverse when one of the arms broke off and the sitting arrangement at the end of the arm came crashing to the ground.

Both an ambulance and the fire service, as well as the Policía Nacional & Local were despatched. The fire personnel needed their cutting equipment to free the victim.

The Town Hall has suspended their fiestas and sent their condolences to the victim’s family.
