Believe it or not, renting out your private pool by the hour or day has become popular in Spain, as a way of earning extra incoming, thanks to an online platform called Cocopool.
This is a consequence of Airbnb, it would seem, and might well be the future, especially in an area with a climate like the Costa Tropical. The CEO of the platform, Gerard Xalabarde, points out that they already have over 250 pools on their books.
So what sort of price structure are we looking at? Well, according to the said CEO the income is 4,000 euros in the high season, reaching as much as 10,000 depending on the property characteristics, of course. Some come with a BBQ area, outside toilets and are perfect for events, such as birthdays, etc.
There are legal liabilities, of course, but if you have rented out your house legally before, you know what they are. A public liability insurance would be necessary as a bare minimum, perhaps.
The people who pay for the use of somebody elses pools want them for family events, like birthdays, anniversaries and baby showers because they have the use of the garden, the BBQ area, the outside kitchen (if there is one) etc, explained Gerard Xalabarde..
Those interested in hiring out their swimming pool area, can register on the online platform, which is free, stipulating rules to be followed and establishing a price. Once it has been processed, an advert is published there within 24 hours. As mentioned, the price is set by the owner, and you have such stipulations & prices as 30 euros per person per day and at the other end, 10,000 euros for the whole season.
