A Nerja Shopping Centre?

It seems Nerja might be getting a shopping centre, for better or for worse: better for those who like to do all their shopping in one place, and worse for small businesses.

An investors group, or holding, called Sinerba, is pushing the idea of erecting such a shopping centre on Avenida Antonio Villasclaras, next to the trading estate, which has good access from the A-7 Frigiliana Junction. This avenue is the one that links the autovia with the N-340 after it passes through the town centre.

The Town Hall is eagerly shuffling the requisite paperwork because it means that its 4-million-euros budget (for everything from the building licences to the finished thing) will make the municipal coffers positively jingle.

So, the shopping centre, if all goes according to plan, will be erected on a 3,232 sq/m plot. It will be distributed over three floors, two of which will be below the level of the said avenue and one on the same level.

The lowest floor will be for parking, although there will also be surface parking on the top floor which is level with the road. The shops, restaurants and even a gym will be distributed between this top floor and the one below it. In total there will be parking for 100 vehicles.

As for how long it will take to build, it will take between 18 and 24 months. However, work won’t start until the beginning of next year so we’re looking at it not opening its doors until the end of 2026.
