Otivar Hill Fire

Infoca were out yesterday fighting a fire in the Río Verde Valley within the municipality of Otívar.

COS Otivar Fire MR24They received a call out around 12.20h. In fact, one of our readers, Paula Rogers, kindly contacted us about it just before one in the afternoon, but information was too scant on the web to provide an article – Thank you, Paula, for thinking of us.

Infoca sent in two firefighting units (Brigadas) as well as deploying four helicopters.

The fire was declared Controlado by half two. Once out, personnel with three fire trucks remained to dampen it down and to prevent it flaring up again.

Estimations are that the fire burnt half a hectare of mountain shrub and bushes.

Editorial comment: from the images with an Infoca video, the fire was just below the main road above the entrance to the Junta de Los Ríos. In fact, it was just before the tight bend on KM Point 41, a little before where I used to live.

I swear some here are a bit thick or just don’t care. My neighbours gardener last Sunday morning lit a fire. Bit windy so smoke everywhere . Let it burn. Then shot off at about 1400. Fire still going. I thought they had to be there all the time. Anyway Monday smouldering away. Tuesday I had enough and sprayed it with water. Today too. Silly people.
