Algarrobo, with its population of 6,773 inhabitants, joined the list of municipalities in the Axarquía that have their water supply cut off during the night.
This is due to the extreme drought in the Comarca de la Axarquía.
The Mayor of Algorrobo explained, “At the moment our water reserves are very low and the committee for managing the drought belonging to the Cuencas Mediterráneas Andaluzas established a limit of 160 litres a day per inhabitant for the whole of the Province of Málaga.”
Now that Algorrobo has joined the list, all the municipalities along the coast of Axarquía with the exception of Nerja have night-time restrictions on water. Vélez-Málaga was the first to impose it on the 30th of June, followed by Torrox in November and a little later, Rincón de la Victoria.
The water utility company, Hidralia, allows consumers to know how much they are saving through its virtual office (https://www.hidralia-sa.es/registro). Once consumers have registered they will also receive news on any changes to circumstances. Finally, the water cuts are from midnight until seven in the morning.
