Hotel Fuerte Update

The Board of Councillors at Almuñécar Town Hall has approved the modification to the hotel project, El Fuerte in La Herradura.

LHR Hotel El Fuerte Artist ImpressionThis was necessary in order to adapt it to the new regulations as the project has been dead in the water for 22 years and things have changed since then, as far as urban planning goes, as you can imagine.

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, said, “One of our firm pledges belonging to this administration was to move this project along and thus offer a new, top-level, hotel establishment, as it will be the first 5-star hotel within our municipality.”

The Mayor explained that the changes have concerned the maximum height of the building, “But this doesn’t mean adding more floors to the four in the project, but rather adapting the construction to the new regulations belonging to Turismo de Andalucía, which establishes a maximum height of 15 metres rather than just 13,” said the Mayor, adding that this height gain will be used with the false ceilings where aircon, fire-prevention installations and lighting, etc are housed.

Councillor for Tourism, Daniel Barbero, who is also the First Councillor for La Herradura, explained that the hotel will be situated on a 10,882 sq/m plot next to the mouth of Río Jate, on which 19,600 sq/m of build will go, spread over the various floors. Furthermore, 2,000 sq/m of the plot will go to public (cultural) use and 3,600 sq/m of green areas, such as gardens & parks. Also included in with the plot are 3,917 sq/m for street and pedestrian paths.

The Mayor finished by saying, “This hotel will produce 100 direct jobs and many indirect ones and will stimulate the local ecomony, as well as decrease the lack of tourist accommodation in La Herradura.”
