Market Metal Structure

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, wandered around the municipal-market building work, followed by other councillors and worksite foreman.

At the moment they are erecting the metal-frame superstructure – workers; not the Mayor, which will be followed by the walls, etc, explained the Mayor who said that this second phase would follow in a very short time.

He also apologised to the citizenry of Almuñécar, whilst pointing out that none of the delays were the fault of the Town Hall *Cough!*

“We have been working for months, I assure you that we were going through a rough patch, but at last we can come to this market worksite and say that we have found the solution for the advancement of the building work,” he said.

The Councillor for Urban Development, Javier García, said that if work continues at this pace the market would be finished at the end of the this year. He also said that in the next few days they would be getting in contact with market-stall holders in the old building (before they were thrown out) as they have the right to take up a stall in the new one.

He said that they can also look at the list of items taken from the old stalls, so that they can choose which ones they wish to recover or have thrown away definitively.

The Mayor concluded that the Town Hall has always defended the priority which the previous stall holders have to open one in the new market.

Editorial comment: How much the leases will cost them compared with the old ones is another question, of course.
