Stain near La Caleta

We received reports yesterday afternoon about a yellowish stain that appeared just around the corner from the Plaza de El Lavadero in La Caleta, Salobreña.

SAL Orange Stain in the SeaThe stain, which covered an area of between 30 and 50 sq/m, was spotted by one of our readers, Merike, who gave the exact position with a google map reference: https://maps.app.goo.gl/SHpNyfUwgqmQRAMY6.

Merike described the stain as being a film but not as thick as oil, for example.

Did anybody else see it or have any ideas what it could be.

Judging by sightings during previous years it could be organic produced by algae. For example there was a stain reported, roughly the same colour, in July 2017 and was caused by a brown algae, which is a type of dinoflagellates organism.

There are also cases here, here and here.

We experienced the same thing at Playa Cabria, 3 – 4 days ago, and again yesterday.
