The Mayor of Málaga, Paco de la Torre, who is no spring chicken, got hit by a lunatic on an electric scooter right outside the Town Hall!
This happened Monday morning whilst he was arriving at the building. You could say to be fair, that he was crossing a bicycle lane at the time, but the fact is that he was using a zebra crossing on it.
The woman on the scooter actually glanced off him rather than leaving a tyre-tread mark up his front and down his back. She did stop and ask him if he was alright and witnesses say that he replied that he was.
He also told his cabinet (i.e., his governing board and not the cabinet where he stores his booze) that he was fine.
The trouble is that many electric-scooter users use lanes intended for bicycles at blistering speeds… Ok, let’s say, ‘rather fast’ but whatever velocity they are travelling, it is too fast.
This particular bicycle lane has a pedestrian crossing wide enough to land a 747 jumbo jet on (again, a slight exaggeration) so there really was no excuse for using the Mayor for ramming practice.
Running the Mayor down on an annoying electrical contraption is a sure way of getting a bylaw issued banning them.
