Medical Centre Work Begins

At long last the construction work on the new medical centre for Salobreña has begun.

SAL New Medical Centre ProjectionMayor Javier Ortega Prados went round to the site this morning, where piles are being driven into the ground. Whilst there he admitted that the site for the new health installations is not the preferred one for some of the locals, although it was the only plot available for a building of this kind and size.

The new medical centre will have 18 doctor’s surgeries, two of which will be for paediatricians, a room for breast-feeding mothers and a minor-operations theatre. Furthermore the A&E Department will have four surgeries or boxes, an observations room and a treatment room.

The building plot, which is between Nuevo Parque La Fuente and the Fuente del Gambullón, covers 4,500 metres for the building itself and a parking area. As for the 3-storey building, it will occupy 2,477 sq/m of ground space.

The completion date is set for 18 months’ time and the whole project has a budget of 7.7-million euro,s which will be funded via the Plan de Mejora de Infraestructuras de Atención Primaria (MINAP).

So that’s what the banging is from 0800. I thought it was my hangover. So only a few more months of this and the foundations will be in situ. ??

The present medical center, although run by good people, is in a rather crowded area. Town hall and other official parts. Parking is always problematic. So if I live another 18 to 24 months. I will if needs be. Go down and be seen.

Malcolm: that’s what they have requested from the Junta, but as Salobreña is PSOE and the Junta is PP… shall have to wait and see.
