A driver was killed when his van went off the road near Carataunas in the Alpujarra Granadina.

The vehicle dropped some 50 metres to the bottom and one of the callers reported that the driver was trapped in the wreckage.

The call centre immediately despatched the Guardia Civil traffic police, and ambulance from Órgiva and the area fire service based in Cádiar.

Although the fire personnel were able to pull the driver out and bring him up to a waiting ambulance, he died at the scene.
