Don’t Say Yes!

The Policía Nacional have issued an online warning about a new telephone scam that involves you saying "yes."

SPN Police Cyber Security OfficerThe trick is that you get a call and the caller, posing as a phone company or a bank, etc, asks you a series of questions with the sole intention of getting a recording of you replying, “Yes.”

With this recording they are able pose as you in order to open an account or make a purchase in your name. Don’t ask us how.

This type of scam is called ‘Vishing.’ Whoever thinks up these names ought to be shot, but that’s an aside.

Anyway, that’s the warning from the Instituto Nacional de Ciberseguridad (INCIBE). If you are any good at that parlour game where you must answer without saying “Yes” or “No” when answering a question, you should have no problem.

An easier solution is to supply, “bugger off!” and end the call, of course. Will work a treat if it’s your mother-in-law as you now have this excuse.
