No Payment; No Electricity

Molvízar Town Hall has been without electricity for a week because it hadn’t paid its electricity bills.

COS Molvizar Town HallThe Town Hall owes 40,000 euros in unpaid electricity bills so the utility company has cut off the Town Hall building and other municipal ones.

The Town Hall claims that being cut off is fruit of a misunderstanding and mismanagement by the previous municipal administration, which had unpaid bills dating back to last year.

The PP opposition party, who were in power at the time, argue that the present administration has had more than enough time and funds to sort it out.

The Town Hall was moved from the Casa de La Cultura to a new premises on Calle Barrio Alto Nº4, without informing the electricty company, which has resulted in “a building that should not be deprived of electricty being cut off.”

We find ourselves,” said Mayor Garcia Puentedura, “in a disastrous accountancy situation with outstanding bills from 2022.”

When the utility company informed the Town Hall that they were going to be cut off, their response was to ask for previous paperwork from them; i.e, copies of the outstanding bills. However, probably considering this request as simply stalling, they went ahead and pulled the power switch.

Afterwards, the Mayor assured that as soon as they located the bills, they had paid the outstanding sum, which got the Town Hall building reconnected but not a municipal storage building.

Editorial comment: summing up, the coalition in power and the main opposition party (PP) are blaming each other for the situation but at the end of the day, the Town Hall, no matter who is at the driving seat, has committed an unpardonable act of mismanagement and owes the people of Molvízar an apology.
