Motril Hill Fire

The sky behind Motril was alive with the coming and going of a helicopter yesterday, which is hardly surprising as there was a fire in the hills behind the town.

AND Infoca Chopper Water BombingIt was around 18.00h that 112 received an alert call from concerned locals about a fire amongst a pine wood next to plastic greenhouses, producing a large column of smoke.

The Motril fire service, as well as units from Infoca, were sent to tackle the blaze in an area known as the Camino de las Zorreras, behind the municipal cemetery.

The firefighters and their fire truck were aided in their task by a Super Puma helicopter carrying out water bombing missions.

Although the fire was declared as ‘controlado‘ a squad of firefighters will remain there to make sure that the wind doesn’t bring it back to life again, so that it can officially be declared as extinguished.
