Salobreña Beach Reopened

The Regional Minister for Public Health, Catalina García, announced that Playa de la Charca can be reopened to the public, following recent testing.

SAL Playa la CharcaMinister Catalina García said that its seawater now “has optimum quality” for bathing and that this afternoon the cordoned off area be opened up.

The Board of Health had issue instructions last Friday for the said beach to be marked out and notices erected warning bathers no to bathe off Playa de La Charca as microscopic traces of human fecal matter were found in a previous sample taken for testing.

The Town Hall was instructed to carry this out, which they did immediately. The Mayor at the time reassured residents and visitors that Salobreña’s other beaches were not affected.

Shut on Friday after independent Board of Health Tests found fecal matter and not jelly fish, yet by some miracle by the following Tuesday it’s open again.

Lo and behold, a Department from the Fecal Investigation Team. Not so independent (some suspicious persons might think). Found , hurrah.

It’s all clear Jim. August holiday bonanza can still go ahead. It’s ok. As the Mayor and Regional Minister for Public Health said, it is good to swim in. Not swallow? (What is optimum quality?)

As a sign of solidarity both Minister and Mayor will do the 100mts freestyle in 10 secs.
