The Guardia Civil carrying out Customs duties at Motril Port discovered a lorry with 218 kilos of hashish hidden in the trailer.

The drug, which was in slab form, was found in different parts of the trailer, thanks to a police sniffer dog used in the port called Júper.

The 34-year-old Moroccan driver, who had disembarked from a vehicle ferry from Tangiers, was arrested and appeared before a magistrate yesterday.

Editorial comment: there is not much that gets past the nose of these specialised police dogs or their counterparts used by the rescue service, which are equally amazing. Man’s best friend, unless you’re smuggling drugs.
