The Policía Local in Motril have been in a prolonged battle with the Town Hall over unpaid overtime, which led to a go-slow strike (no overtime).
However, with a new face in the office for Councillor for Citizen Safety, José Peña, they have decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that they can get along better than with the previous holder of that post.
Consequently, they asked for a meeting with him yesterday morning, explained the Spokesperson for the police union, SIPLG, Daniel Ortega.
It also has to do with the arrival of the summer and the large increase in population numbers, so ‘all hands will be on deck,’ in total support of local businesses.
Of course, the legal actions are still going through the judiciary pipelines; the police union had denounced the Mayor over her handling of Semana Santa without adequate official policing.

Policing on the cheap, never a good idea, nor emergency services. Bringing in cheaply paid staff and keen volunteers isn’t the answer!

Citizens need decently paid emergency services. Overtime owed and incurred should be paid. Do politicians have no conscience? No, wait, they are politicians!
