A minor was injured on a fairground attraction in Motril yesterday, requiring his being admitted to hospital.
The said fairground attractions were closed immediately until the circumstances of the accident have been clarified and the safety of the equipment assured.
One problem is that the travelling fairground attractions did not possess written permission from the Town Hall to set up his equipment on Avenida Norman Bethune (Ronda Sur connecting Alcampo roundabout to the port road one).
The said company claims that they had verbal permission both from the Mayor’s office and the office of the Councillor for Fiestas. The participation of his fairground attractions were even included in publicity for the fiestas; i.e., issued by the Town Hall.
At the time of the accident, the company was given the opportunity to phone the relevant Town-Hall official so that they could confirm that they was authorised to set up and operate
However, the Town Hall refused to confirm that they had issued permission verbally or in writing.
As for the victim, unconfirmed reports suggest that the child, reportedly aged 11 (some sources say 12), was not wearing the safety harness when the machinery was put in motion.
The victim was discharged from Hospital Santa Ana this morning.
