There has been a wave of break-ins in the Río de La Miel in Nerja, which has caused great concern amongst property owners in that area.
Around ten dwellings have been raided whilst their owners were absent. However, the Guardia Civil have arrested one suspect in connection with these happenings.
The break-ins began in December and carried on through last month.
Whoever was behind them used the same modus operandi; the staking out of the target to see the comings and goings of the owners to find one where there was nobody living there and then raiding the property in the early hours, forcing an entry.
The arrested man is in his 40s and is a resident of the area, who has a criminal record for similar offences in dwellings in other areas of Nerja and Frigiliana.
When the Guardia Civil obtained a search warrant for his own cortijo, they allegedly found stolen items. Police consider that other stolen items have already been sold on the black market.
Most of the things taken were farming equipment and electronic goods such as TVs, as well as cash, with a total value of some 15,000 euros, when damages to buildings are taken into account.
