Lanjarón’s Plans

Lanjarón intends to make its own Caminito del Rey, amongst other ideas to attract tourism with more than just their fame for spring water.

This suspended-bridge project, which will be called Caminito del Tajo Colorao, was presented last month at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) whih was held in Madrid. All told they have 23 projects, some of which are tree planting in the areas of a Huerta de las Monjas and Tello, as well as doing up the Castillo Árabe, which would require a budget of a quarter of a million euros. They’re even contemplating a zip line across a valley!

The project is part of the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística Lanjarón Pueblo del Agua: Ecoturismo en el Parque Natural de Sierra Nevada, which is a mouthful but fairly explanitory; at least Mayor Eric Escobedo thinks so

“It will be a suspended bridge similar to the famous Caminito del Rey in Málaga, which is very successful, so we firmly believe that one would work in Lanjarón, too,” explained the Mayor, adding that the Junta de Andalucía had provided 2,5-million euros, which in turn comes from EU funding entitled Next Generation.

The envisaged route which will wind through the Tajo Colorao (a ravine-like valley) where they will build three miradores (panoramic observation points). As for the zip line, if it is included, it will take lunatics from one side of the valley to the castle. According to the Mayor, it will be one of the four longest in Andalucia. They’re even contemplating a feria aeria (metal rungs set in a cliff face for climbers).
