Hotel Salobreña Overhauled

Hotel Salobreña is pulling out all the stops in order to obtain a 4-star category, which will require major renovation work.

The original hotel building was built 55 years ago, which did not include the wing in front of the swimming pool, and much less the conference building nearer to the N-340 entrance. My second night in Spain was spent there, on the 3rd of November 1981, just over 41 years ago, so I feel a little cariño towards it and remember it in its original form and the staff who worked there back then.

The Hotel Manager and owner, Manuel Martín Montero, explained to Radio Salobreña that amongst other areas, the hotel entrance and foyer will change. The pool area will also be extended and an infinity pool is envisaged. If municipal urban-development norms permit it, he also intends to build an indoor, heated pool for the colder months. However, the number of rooms will remain the same; the increase will be in common areas and services.

All of this will require an investment of around 4,000,000 euros because the hotel also has to be adapted to modern building norms concerning safety. The facade is, generally speaking, not going to change, although in places it will; the entrance will be enlarged, for example and will be covered to shelter guests if it is raining.

So what timeline are we looking at? The first step is to obtain the building licence which hopefully won’t be delayed much, so if all goes well, work should commence in November.

Finally, for the second year running, the hotel has won the Wedding Award belonging to the website Bodas.net, which is one of the most important ones in the world of weddings.
