The surprise, New Year's rave party in La Peza, went without a hitch with between 3,000 and 4,000 partygoers bopping in a nearby field - La Peza only has a population of 1,100.
Those figures were given by the Town Hall, whereas the Guardia Civil put the figure as around 1,000 people and nearly 300 vehicles, but whatever the turn out, it went without problems and was a resounding success for those that attended. We say, “went,” but it will continue until tomorrow, apparently.
There was one very obvious problem, which was when a Dutch lorry became jammed between two houses, trying to get through the village.
However, Mayor Fernando Álvarez pointed out that it was an illegal gathering as it was held on municipal land without permission from the Town Hall.
The field where the stage was set up and where most of the vehicles that managed to get through before the Guardia Civil closed the road are parked, is about four kilometres from the village itself.
The lorry that was jammed between two houses had to be dragged out by a tractor, and not without damaging the walls of the two buildings.

Mark, I never expected such a response, but then again as things seem to go these days, I am not too surprised. For the record, I do not belong to any tribe. I have never done drugs, I do drink what I want when I want, but only in moderation. I also play whatever music I want but am respectful of my neighbors and keep the volume down. I have never been one for sitting on my backside either. I like to think that I treat others how I would want them to treat me.
As I said before “Sure some things are wrong and need to be addressed, but people need to be able to have fun and live life without moaners going on all the time”,
Mark: whilst we wait for Shiner to respond or not, why not tell us what you consider the meaning of “woke” to be?
Does ‘Shiner’ know the accepted meaning of the word ‘woke’ ? clearly not. what part of ‘you can take as many drugs as you like, you can ‘have fun’ as often as you like, you can drink as much booze and you like, you can sit around on your arse all day if you like – and you can listen to whatever music you like – but the second it adversly affects others, people will come after you’ ? No doubt he/she is part of the same ‘tribe’ who believe the world revolves around them and if they upset others it’s just too bad.
Tell me Shiner: what act by another person/others would you defend yourself against if it affected you – or posed a risk to your wellbeing, maybe your family, children if you have them….?
My encounters, and My opinion with the local police over the years is they have got abit of common sense about what is and what isnt gonna cause more mither Well Done for not making a mountain out ov a mole hill

Martyn – Well said. Far too many people moaning these days. They need to find a mirror and have a word with themselves. The “Woke” generation seem to have a negative opinion on almost anything. Sure some things are wrong and need to be addressed, but people need to be able to have fun and live life without the moaners going on all the time.
Hooray for being a miserable bastard! As long as you’re not on my lawn when you’re doing it. Hmmph.
Sue: Here we go. I did quite clearly say that NO, I am not in favour of it. Secondly, I did quite clearly say that the Guardia Civil judged it less chaotic to allow it to continue than to try to get 300 vehicles out of the fields, passing all the vehicles parked along the only access road to La Peza.
I did not say that a whole generation took drugs but that the generation that were in their teens in the 60s/70s did plenty of drugs. Every rock band did drugs and quite a few of them didn’t make it – it was the great rock’n’roll suicide.
No, not all festivals were organised in the 70s because I remember the Stonehenge festival in the 70s. You couldn’t do spontaneous rave parties in the 70s because there was no social media, which is at the heart of the problem.
I’m in my 66th year, my parents were born in the 20s and were the ones that moaned about “the long-hair layabouts – get a haircut and a job!” Music was too loud and just a lot of shouting for them, who were brought up on Glen Miller.
Now, I have no idea how old you are, Sue, nor how old Richard is but I personally have reached the hound-dog stage of life: I sit on the porch and bark at everybody that goes past. I, again, said quite clearly that I shout at the TV and get unreasonable upset about the idiots that move off too slowly when the lights change to green, therefore there is no doubt that I am a “miserable bastard” Oh, and if you think that the use of “miserable bastard” was meant as a personal insult rather than the way that it was really meant, then I get the impression that you are looking to feel offended.
If you search this site you will see quite clearly how botellones, San Juan fiestas and the yearly Dragon Fests in Órgiva are viewed but, and here’s the crunch, first Richard comes on determined to feel offended for the people of La Peza and now you come on, determined to feel offended for Richard and to be quite honest, I have no idea why so many people are so determined to feel offended on social media. Perhaps it’s the “woke” thing with legions of people on a mission to feel offended for people whom they have never met and or most unlikely to.
Richard was having a beef about drugs – there have always been drugs. Young people get together, make a noise, make a mess and piss off their parents’ generation, so let us take a leaf out of rhe Guardia Civil book: it’s happened, it was too late to stop because it was organised on Whatsapp, they were faced with an ongoing situation that would have got become much worse had they waded in, so they let it runs it’s course. If you think that the Guardia Civil weren’t noting vehicle registrations and investigating who had organised it, then you are missing half the picture. Somebody will come a cropper for having organised it.
So, Sue, I think I have covered all the points. If you feel offended by the article or my response to Richard, that’s your prerogative and how I chose to respond to this criticism is mine.
In response to martin: not sure why you are attacking the original poster (bastard??) why do you assume that all people of a certain generation took drugs? i presume you do not know the posters age . also the festivals of the 70s were organised and people knew about them and could plan – like woodstock or the reading festival in england.
why are the GC letting it just continue over days – they should shut the music down. as the poster says would you be ok if it was on ur doorstep?
Richard: Wonderful! The year starts with a social-media warrior on a mission to be offended.
I was young once – you apparently missed out on that stage of life. I remember the rock festivals in the 70s. Every heard of Woodstock in 69? Besides I always find it amusing that the generation that popped more pills than any other preceding it, is now so high and mighty about young people popping pills at music festivals.
Yes, they’re making a lot of noise and will leave a lot of mess, but no more than on beaches after San Juan.
Do I think that it should have taken place, however? No, but it did and the Guardia Civil decided that it was less dangerous to let it run than to try and break it up because of the chaos trying to get that many vehicles back on the road to empty the village.
It’s the 2nd of January, 2023 today – do try not to be such a grumpy bastard the rest of the year – take that as friendly advice from somebody that regularly shouts at the TV when politicians are on and who angrily gesticulates when somebody does not move off quick enough at traffic lights change.
‘Bopping in a field…’ ‘…was a resounding success’ What planet are you on? You make it sound like a kids party that began at 2pm and finished at 5pm. These a*seholes have made people’s lives miserable for several days with the volume level, blocking roads, taking up hours of Guardia Civil times etc. Why are you celebrating it? How would you feel if they turned a few 100 metres from where you live – you’d stay silent, eh? Also the idiots in the town hall joked about ‘how they should have charged people to attend’. Oh, hilarious. Lawlessness, drugs, not giving a sh*t about others – but they are ‘having a bop’.
