They’re Back!

Salobreña is at last getting its own Protección Civil unit back after several years of absence and the town depending on its neighbours' one.

The trouble is, finding volunteers for the task is very slow, which is why they have launched a recruitment campaign on social media.

During the recent Romeria fiestas, the formation were present, which in itself served to make people aware of their existence and manpower needs.

The Chief, Bienvenido Guijarro, announced that they are desperately in need of people who wish to form part of this organisation, ceding their time to help the town through volunteer work. You don’t  have to be a resident of Salobreña as residents of other municipalities are more than welcome.

You don’t need specific knowledge to become a member because upon joining you will go through a training course where the required skills will be imparted; i.e., First Aid, Communications and Logistics. What you do need to be, however, is over 18, which shouldn’t be a problem for most of the Gazette readers!

Obviously, if you have already been trained in medical assistance, then you’re just the ticket. In fact, they organised a chat at the FP del IES La Zafra for nursing students and 50 people turned up.

The training consists of an online, Level One course, as well as accompanying existing members when they are assisting large gatherings management –  the Romería fiestas is a perfect example. Training lasts a total of 45 hours, which is done through the Junta de Andalucía.

At present the Salobreña branch of Protección Civil has less than a dozen voluneers but according the the unit Chief, they need between 15 and 20 members because when they are out providing presencial assistane, not everybody is available.

Those that are interested can obtain more information by phoning 605 040 596 or have a look at the information posted on the Information Board within the Town Hall. Protección Civil is located in the building next to the medical centre.
