Sometimes it's difficult to withdraw cash from an ATM... unless you have explosives, which is what thieves used on one in Láchar.
Unfortunately for these thieves, the bank is right across from the Town Hall, which has good-quality-imagery CCTV on its facade, so the whole thing was recorded in almost HD.
The Mayor, Mari Nieves López, explained that the cameras are there to help control the traffic, as a main street runs past the Town Hall.
The Guardia Civil is now in possession of these unintentional selfies, which are helping immensely with their investigation into the robbery.
In fact, according to the Mayor, the Green Meanies were screeching to a halt outside the bank not five minutes after the explosion but their first task was calming down the townsfolk awoken by the blast. Shorty afterwards, the Bomb Disposal branch of the Guardia Civil arrived from the city to look at the damage to ascertain what explosives were used, etc.
Láchar, which has a population of 3,500 inhabitants and lies just 25 kilometres away from the city of Granada, was woken by the explosion just after 01.30h, on the morning of the 30th (yesterday). At first, people thought that there had been an explosion caused by a gas leak.
The explosion completely shattered the reinforced glass belonging to the facade of the bank, scattering pieces a dozen metres away.
