Motril Town Hall, along with other Costa Tropical ones, has lowered the tax on vehicles, affecting 28,661 of its residents.

MOT Traffic Centre 400x250The administration’s intention is that this should take affect in time for 2023. The Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro, says that it is the first time in over a decade that Motril has undergone a “massive” cut in local taxes.

She said that this was to help out families and businesses, especially farmers who are struggling with the drought.

The reduction will range between 4.2% and 24% depending on the cubic capacity of the engine for 23,800 family cars and 4,681 work vehicles.

Put another way 24% on private cars with small engines (1,698 cars) 9% on medium-sized engines (12,251 cars) and 4.2% on private vehicles with large engines (9,851 cars).

Large vans and lorries with small engines (2,600) will have a 5.7%, reductions, 1,100 lorries with medium-sized engines will have a 3% reduction and 189 lorries with large engines will have a 2% reduction.

As far as farm vehicles go, nearly 400 tractors will pay between 14% and 2% depending on the cylinder capacity.

At the risk of just going on and on, we’ll cut to the 50% reduction on electric and hybrid cars,100% reduction on historic cars and 50% on veteran ones.

Editorial comment: two points to be remembered: firstly, next year are the municipal elections… say no more, and secondly, from next year you won’t be able to drive in the centre of Motril with old cars and only those with B and C certificates will be able to enter… by paying a special tax.
