The Guardia Civil, traffic police stopped a car on the A-7 autovía within the province of Málaga because the driver was weaving all over the place.
They had been alerted by other road users who said that they had had to take evasive action in order not to hit the car, which was travelling at only 70 to 80 kph and weaving across both lanes. Furthermore, driving so slowly on an autovía was causing a tailback.
When the car came in sight (near kilometre point 246) the officers noticed that the airbags had been activated and that the front, left-hand tyre was shredded.
The officers gave the driver a breathalyser and it came back positive, as did the test for the presence of drugs, giving a reading for cocaine and amphetamines.
The driver has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, as well as dangerous driving.
This information came from the Guardia Civil official webpage and unfortunately the press release did not explain what had caused the airbags to go off nor why the front tyre had disintegrated.
