Two men have been arrested in Loja after a small armoury was found in their car.
The Local Police stopped the car because the occupants looked ‘suspicious;’ One had a kerchief tied over his head and wore an eye patch and the other had a parrot on his shoulder and had a hook for a hand… just joking!
Anyway, the police, who had been on patrol near the parking in Edificio Bonilla, pulled them over in the early hours of Wednesday morning on the avenida Rafael Pérez del Álamo.
The police had at first turned on their flashing lights as the suspects’ car drove by but they had not stopped, so the patrol car overtook and stopped them.
The police asked them for their IDs and patted them both down and then inspected the vehicle. Inside was a AK47 assault rifle and magazine, a machine pistol and an automatic pistol. There was also a sawn-off shotgun, a large machete and abundant ammunition for all the weapons. It was obvious that they were not working for the Red Cross…
At this point the municipal police called in the Guardia Civil to make the arrests as they would have to be charged under Criminal rather than Civil Law.
Unsurprisingly, both men had extensive charge sheets for the illegal possession of firearms.

Just a small correction. Automatic weapons of any kind are illegal in Spain unless police or military…
Lynne: if it makes it into the news, it is because it is unusual. Spain has firearm laws that govern hunting, for example, which permit automatic rifles (not assault rifle) but you can only legally have two rounds in a mag and one in the chamber.
The purchase of ammunition is tightly controlled, both for hunters and for gun clubs. Even replica guns that shoot paintballs, for example, are controlled. You cannot just pull one out of the boot of your car, as one women did when she took it in for repair.
There is no Second Amendment here, something that is causing of all America’s strife concerning mass shooting.
So don’t be sad. Where there is drug running, there is gun running, so if somebody is caught with a bootfull (trunk) of, to be honest, very ropey looking weapons, it is not a sign that Spain is going the same way as the US, and I say this with all repect for your country. 😉
I cried when I read this. My husband and I moved here from the US 2 years ago because of this kind of stuff. We had to get away from it. So sad to see this happening here.
