The Policía Local in Granada halted the northbound traffic on the busy, city bypass on Tuesday the 23rd in order to save an injured kitten.
Apparently, the tiny moggy had decided to expend a suitable number of its feline lives by playing with the traffic on this autovía. A Spanish saying goes, “en martes, ni te cases ni te embarques” as Tuesdays are considered unlucky but this cat had obviously thought, “sod it!” and set out for a stroll on the Highway to Hell.
Of course, saving the cat was only one reason for grinding the traffic to a halt, because there was a high risk of an accident if somebody tried to swerve to miss it and caused a pile up.
Fortunately, the cat was removed from the road before it joined the tarmac in a one-dimensional format and no accidents occurred. The kitten was already injured, however, and a tad upset, so it was not the easiest creature to convince that your intentions are for its own good.
Editorial Comment: actually, the photograph is clear evidence that the policeman was caught in the act of placing the kitten on the road… Just kidding!

crikey that’s not fair, don’t blame the older generation. It’s the younger generation that breed dogs for their puppies on puppy farms . Neglected starved and incarcerated in tiny housing for money. The youth of today don’t want to work for a living so they use animals . Helpless animals in desperate situations purely for breeding then sell puppies for ridiculous prices just so they line their pockets.
As for mentioning sticking kids up chimneys really ??? how far back are you going it was a job so they got money for family. This is in answer to Patrick .
We all need good news stories from time to time
Sometimes I think Spain is a very strange country. Some animal treatment is awful. By awful people. Setting fire to sugar cane in order to move on the wild pigs or boars.
Setting snares. Shooting small birds for sport and lastly that awful Bull killing slowly. Called bullfighting. Not in my book.
Gradually the younger population seem to be getting on top of this and not supporting this event in barbarity.
Same really as cock fighting. Running of the bulls and putting children up chimneys.
Hopefully we will see more kindness towards animals then the older generations seem to show. More neutering of stray cats and dogs and more care too.
