Thanks to a local whose suspicions were roused enough to make a note of a number plate, the Guardia Civil managed to arrest a break-in suspect.
The 50-year-old suspect is alleged to have scaled a fence to enter a farmer’s storage building where tools and equipment are kept towards the end of April. The modus operandi used was to climb onto the tiled roof and enter through a ventilation shaft.
The owner reported the theft and the Guardia Civil opened an investigation into the crime and began interviewing people near the scene of the crime in search of anybody who may have seen or noticed anything unusual. After several weeks, they interviewed a local who had seen a suspicious stranger near the storage facility and had approached the driver to ask who he was.
The man didn’t answer but drove off, instead, but not before the witness had managed to memorise and make a note of the number plate. With this information, the police were able to track down the driver. Upon finding him and seeing that he matched the description given by the witness, the police arrested the man, accused of having carried out the burglary.
